Testimony of the Times is a magazine featuring poetry, prose, essays, visual art, music, and more from Spanish and English-speaking participants around the world. Inspired by the Latin American "little magazines" of the 1960s, it aims to be a portrait of the era we live in.
 

From the climate crisis to raging wars, genocides, and polarized political scenes, we, the artists of the mid-2020s, are constantly facing questions of how to act in this moment. Change takes time, however. Taking steps toward a more just and empathetic world requires patience, creativity, collaboration, and persistence. Testimony is interested in the ways that building a creative network can help us confront the challenges of this era. At the very least, it can start by giving voice to some of the concerns, attitudes, and hopes of our time.
 

The magazine's first issue, completed in April, 2024, included the work of 18 students from the US, Mexico, and Colombia. In its second issue, Testimony hopes to broaden its horizons by reaching out to participants beyond the Americas of all ages. One of the central goals is to reject the notion that art and literature are things that only the most educated can produce, understand, and enjoy. Art is for everyone, everywhere. And if it is to change the world as so many artists hope, then we ought to start making it more accessible.
 

While anyone is encouraged to send a submission in either Spanish or English, this magazine places special emphasis building a bridge between the artists of the English-speaking world and Latin America. This goal remains important during a time when anti-immigration rhetoric attempts to "other" our southern peers, and a time in which US imperialism is no doubt still alive and thriving.
 

Diversity of voices is incredibly important. The magazine is especially excited about including the work of artists of color, queer artists, artists from various socioeconomic backgrounds, artists of different nationalities, and much more.
 

Testimony of the Times was born from the desire to be part of a positive change, and the belief that art has the power to increase the momentum of that change. This little magazine exists because the connections formed and fostered through it are exemplary of the kind of change it hopes for: one in which we collaborate in the face of social and cultural tensions that do not want us to; governments that do not want us to; established literary journals that do not want us to in order to overcome the barriers of borders and imagine a more peaceful future together.​

Testimonio de los tiempos es una revista que presenta poemas, prosa, ensayos, arte visual, música y más de participantes hispano- y angloparlantes de todo el mundo. Se inspira en las "pequeñas revistas" de los años sesenta, con la meta de servir como retrato de la época en que vivimos.

Desde la crisis climática hasta las guerras furiosas, los genocidios de y las escenas políticas polarizadas, nosotros, los artistes de mediados de los 2020, enfrentamos constantemente la gran pregunta de qué debemos hacer en este momento. El cambio toma tiempo, sin embargo. Tomar pasos hacia un mundo más justo y empático requiere de la paciencia, la creatividad, la colaboración y la persistencia. Testimonio le interesa las maneras en que la construcción de una red creativa puede servir para enfrentar los desafíos de nuestra época. Por lo menos, es un comienzo, al dar voz a algunas de las preocupaciones, actitudes y esperanzas de nuestro tiempo.

 

El primer número de la revista, finalizado en abril de 2024, incluyó los trabajos de 18 estudiantes de los EEUU, México y Colombia. En su segundo número, Testimonio espera extenderse a participantes más allá de las Américas de todas edades. Una de las metas centrales de Testimonio es precisamente rechazar la noción que el arte y la literatura sean solo de la gente "culta", que sean solamente ellos que lo puedan producir, entender y disfrutar. El arte es para todos, de todas partes. Y si va a cambiar el mundo como esperan tantos artistas, entonces debemos empezar hacerlo más accesible.

Aunque todos cualquiera puede participar en español o inglés, esta revista tiene el compromiso de construir un puente entre los artistas del mundo angloparlante y América Latina. Tal meta sigue siendo fundamental en una época en que la retórica anti-inmigratoria estadounidense trata de pintar a nuestros compañeros latinoamericanos como "otros", y cuando el imperialismo estadounidense está -sin duda- más vivo que nunca.

La diversidad de voces es sumamente importante. La revista espera incluir los trabajos de artistas de color, artistas queer, artistas de varias clases sociales, artistas de distintas nacionalidades, y mucho más.

​

Antes que nada, Testimonio de los tiempos nació del deseo de ser parte de un cambio positivo, y de una creencia en la capacidad del arte de aumentar el ímpetu de ese cambio. Esta pequeña revista existe porque las conexiones formadas y fomentadas a través de ella son ejemplares del tipo de cambio que busca: uno en que colaboremos a pesar de las tensiones sociales y culturales que no lo quieren; a pesar de los gobiernos que no lo quieren; a pesar de las revistas establecidas que no lo quieren. En fin, para superar las barreras de las fronteras e imaginar un futuro juntos en paz.
